Status: Application Pending. The Robert Norris Man of Iron Foundation has officially filed Form 1023 with the IRS for recognition of tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The Official IRS Technical Rule Under Internal Revenue Code Section 508(a) and Treasury Regulation Section 1.508-1(a)(2)(i), an organization that files its application within 27 months of legal formation is recognized as tax-exempt retroactively to its date of incorporation upon approval.
What this means for you:
Retroactive Deductibility: Because our application was filed within this 27-month window, once the IRS issues our official Determination Letter, all donations made during this pending period will be recognized as tax-deductible contributions to a 501(c)(3) organization.
Compliance with Publication 557: Per IRS Publication 557, while an application is pending, an organization may treat itself as exempt. However, donors do not have "advance assurance" of deductibility until the final letter is issued. If the application is approved, your contribution is tax-deductible for the tax year in which the gift was made.
Documentation: We will issue a formal acknowledgment for your records today. If you have questions regarding the specific timing of your deduction, we recommend consulting with a tax professional.

Where does my donation go?
Empowering Neurodivergent Athletes Through Action. At the Robert Norris Man of Iron Foundation, we believe that every individual deserves the opportunity to find their "Iron Will." Your contribution directly funds the programs that remove barriers to entry and provide the training necessary for neurodivergent individuals to compete, grow, and inspire.
Your donations are utilized across these core impact areas:
1. Racing & Event Sponsorships We provide scholarships and direct funding for race entries (including triathlons, marathons, and local community races). This ensures that the cost of participation is never a barrier for a neurodivergent athlete. Your gift puts athletes on the starting line of world-class events.
2. Specialized Training & Coaching Racing is the outcome; training is the foundation. We fund specialized coaching programs tailored to the unique needs of the neurodivergent community, including Down Syndrome. This includes safety gear, nutritional guidance, and adaptive training plans that help our athletes cross the finish line safely and with confidence.
3. Community Outreach & Awareness Building We host motivational events and inspirational racing clinics designed to bring the community together. These programs build awareness for neurodiversity and provide a platform for our athletes to share their stories, proving to the world that "disability" is not a limit to greatness.
4. Adaptive Equipment & Support For many of our athletes, specialized equipment is a requirement. Donations help fund the purchase and maintenance of adaptive racing gear, from tandem bikes to specialized running chairs and sensory-friendly training environments.
5. Operational Stewardship As we establish our global footprint, a small portion of funds is used for IRS compliance and foundation management. This ensures our 501(c)(3) status remains in good standing so we can continue to serve the community with transparency and integrity for years to come.

Do you accept in-kind donations?
Yes, but only in approved forms that directly support our athletes. The Robert Norris Man of Iron Foundation welcomes non-monetary "in-kind" donations of goods and services that help our neurodivergent athletes train, compete, and grow. To ensure the safety and success of our programs, we accept donations that align with our mission and meet our quality standards.
Our Primary Focus: Gear & Nutrition The most impactful way to give in-kind is through the tools our athletes use every day:
Race Gear: We accept new or gently used training clothing, athletic shoes (with significant tread remaining), and safety equipment like helmets or reflective gear.
Nutrition: We accept unexpired, factory-sealed endurance nutrition, including gels, electrolyte powders, and recovery supplements.
Supporting the Foundation’s Growth Beyond gear, we accept other forms of in-kind support that reduce our operational costs, including:
Race Entries: Donations of race slots or "charity bibs" for local or national triathlons, marathons, and community events.
Professional Services: Pro bono coaching, sports photography, or event planning services.
Organizational Tools: Any other non-monetary donations that help grow our infrastructure or outreach capabilities.
How to Donate Because our needs change based on our current racing schedule, we ask that all in-kind donations be approved before they are sent.
Submit a Proposal: Send a brief description of the items to [Insert Email Address].
Verification: Our team will ensure the items meet our safety and mission requirements.
Acknowledgment: Once received, we will provide a formal acknowledgment letter for your records. (Note: Per IRS rules, donors are responsible for determining the fair market value of their in-kind gifts).
